Title Redevelopment of informal settlements and location of population flows in Bamiyan and Herat

Projects goals

This project intends to continue the support action for territorial governance policies prepared by the Local Authorities and by the MUDL  in particular the containment and requalification of informal settlements.

Specifically, the project is aimed at supporting the redevelopment of informal settlements in Bamiyan and Herat and facilitating the placement of the urbanized and repatriated population, in compliance with urban plans.

The decision to intervene on Bamiyan and Herat, capitals of the provinces of the same name, is due to the fact that both have experienced an important increase in population in the last fifteen years, also due to the flow of returns currently underway, so that they are currently among the areas urban areas with the highest population growth rate.

In both cities, this negative dynamic is also worsening due to the growing flow of repatriations currently underway, up to threatening relevant parts of the cultural heritage, in particular in Bamiyan, where informal settlements also creep up within the sites perimeter covered by UNESCO as World Heritage Site.
