Giovanna Potestà is an architect and Ph.D. in Architecture and Urban Design (University of Florence). After a collaboration in the office Natalini Architetti, where she has been involved in the design of large scale projects in Italy and The Netherlands, from 1998 to 2008 she served as consultant for the development plan of the area ex-FIAT in Novoli, Florence.
From 2009 to 2015 she has taught Urban Design and Urban Theories at Kuwait University (Kuwait) and from 2015 to 2019 she has taught Urban Design and Sustainable Urban Development at Rochester Institute of Technology, NY and Dubai.
Her research encompasses topics of sustainable urbanism in Europe, US and Middle East. In 2013, she has been awarded for Excellence in Research by the Kuwait University Research Office. In 2015 she has been nominated faculty of the year at the Golisano Institute of Sustainability, RIT NY. She is member of scientific committees and author of international publications.
She teaches at the University of Florence as an adjunct professor since 2019. Her research and teaching activity pertain topics of urban development and international cooperation. She is part of the Social Geography Laboratory at the University of Florence where she presently conducts her research.
